Events in your admin sidebar, under Trading, are the trading competitions you run. Traders enter with a ticket, trade for a place on a leaderboard over a set window, and the best ranks win a free challenge, a coupon or cash.
The screen is there while events are switched on under Platform features. You
need the view_events permission to open it and manage_events to create,
change, publish, end, cancel, award, take a trader out of the ranking or delete.
Somebody with only the first sees everything, with the fields switched off and a
line saying why. Changing the price, limit or sale of a ticket also needs
manage_challenges, because those belong to the challenge itself, and the
Activity tab needs view_activity_logs. A trader, an account, a coupon or a
payout opens from an event only for whoever may see that screen.
The list
The screen opens on the list alone, across its whole width, and shows no event in full until you pick one.
Each row is an event with how it ranks and the start of its description, the dates in your firm's time zone with how long until it starts, ends or how long ago it ended, how many traders entered and how many were taken out, the cash on the table per currency with how many places win something, when it was added and where it stands. As the list gets narrower the less important columns leave first.
An event stands in one of six places:
- Draft: only your team sees it.
- Coming up: published, so traders see it and can enter, but trading for a place has not started.
- Live: running. The scores are worked out every five minutes.
- Awaiting prizes: its window closed, the ranks are frozen and the prizes wait for you to hand them out.
- Completed: the prizes went out.
- Cancelled: stopped without prizes.
The line under the name counts every event, and the live ones, those awaiting prizes, those coming up and the drafts. Each of those is also a filter: click one to see only those.
Search finds an event by its name or its description, and also by a trader who entered: their name, email address or account number. A whole ID finds exactly what it names: an event, or the events a trader or an account entered. The filter menu sorts the list (what needs attention first, newest, latest start, name or most entries) and narrows it by status and by ranking. Search, filters, sort and page live in the address, so a link shows the same list. Fifty events come to a page.
"What needs attention" is the default order: live events first, then those awaiting prizes, coming up, drafts, and what is over last.
J and K move through the list and Enter opens the lit event. Right click a
row for everything you can do without opening it: open the leaderboard, the
step that fits where it stands (publish, unpublish, end, reopen, award, cancel
or restore), run it again, copy its name, ID or link, see it as a trader does, and
delete it.
An event
An event opens beside the list, which folds into a column, and has its own address, so a link from a coupon, a challenge, the activity log or the command palette opens on it. The cross or Escape folds the list back to the same filters and page.
The head shows the name, the ranking, and a line saying whether entries are open, how many tickets the event has, how many traders were taken out and whether the prizes went out. Under it: how many entered, when it starts and ends (or started and ended), the prizes, and who leads or when entries close.
The button in the head is the next step for the event: Publish a draft, Back to draft before it starts, End now while it runs, Award prizes once it waits for them, Back to draft after a cancel, and Run again once it is completed. The more menu holds the rest, including Refresh standings while it runs, so the scores do not wait five minutes.
Setup
The first tab is the event itself, saved with the save dock at the bottom.
- Event: the name traders read and a description of up to 2000 characters.
- Ranking: percentage return (fair across account sizes), profit in money (a larger account has the edge), or return per risk (percentage return divided by the deepest drawdown during the event).
- When it runs: the start, the end and when entries close, in your firm's time zone, with Now for the start and one click for an event of 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks or 30 days. Entries can close at the start, at the end, or at any moment you pick before the end.
- Prizes: tiers, each covering one rank or a range of ranks, winning a free challenge, cash in a currency you pick, or a coupon of a percentage or an amount off. A tier can carry a note that traders read under the prize.
- Entry tickets: the challenges traders buy or claim to enter. Search your challenges and tick the ones that are tickets. For each you can set the price, the limit per trader and whether it is on sale, right here. A challenge that is a ticket leaves your pricing page and is only sold through its event.
The column beside the form shows the event as a trader meets it: the name, the window, when entries close, the ranking, the prizes and what entering costs. Under that, how many entered, how many ranks win, the cash on the table, the tickets and the prizes already handed out. Before you save it warns about:
- an end that is not after the start, or that has already passed
- entries that close after the end, or closed already
- a new ranking while traders already entered, which reorders the board at once
- tiers that overlap, leave a gap, or do not start at rank 1, and an event with nothing to win
- a prize challenge without phases, which cannot be handed out
- a percentage coupon over 100%
- no ticket, a ticket that is switched off or has no phases, and a free ticket without a limit per trader
- a challenge that is the ticket of another event now, which saving moves here
- a challenge on your pricing page, which as a ticket is only sold here
Only what you changed is sent, so a save never puts back a status the clock moved on while you had the event open. Once an event ended, its ranking and window stay as they are, because the standings were frozen over them. Once a prize went out, the tiers stay too, since they are what was handed out.
Leaderboard
The board traders see, with each trader's rank, score, result and drawdown, and the prize the rank wins. Before the event ends the prize reads "In the running", because nothing is final yet. Search by trader, email or account number, or narrow to the ranks in the prizes or the traders taken out. Fifty traders come to a page. Each row opens the account it entered with, or the trader.
Right click a trader to take them out of the ranking, with a reason only your team reads. The trader is not told. They drop off the board and cannot win, and their score is kept, so you can put them back where they stood. Once the event ended, the ranks are worked out again over the frozen scores, so the next trader moves up into the prizes. Neither works once a prize went out, or on a completed or cancelled event.
Prizes
Each tier with who holds its ranks: who would win if the event ended now, the winners once it ended, and after the award what each prize made. A free challenge links to the account it became and where that account stands, a coupon to the coupon with whether it was used, and cash to the payout request with where that stands.
Award prizes hands every waiting prize to the trader who won it: a free challenge becomes an account, a coupon is made for the winner, and cash becomes a payout request. The event is then completed. It asks first, since it reaches traders and cannot be undone. A prize that cannot be made (a free challenge without phases) stops the award at that tier with the reason, and the prizes made before it stay made, so fix the tier and award again to hand out the rest. When nothing waits, the button says Finish event and only marks the event completed.
Activity
When the event was made and every change your team saved to it, each step from draft to completed, traders taken out and put back with the reason, and the prizes handed out. The Activity log has the same lines with every filter.
A new event
New event opens an empty event in the inspector. Choose whether it stays a draft or is published at once, and the save dock creates it. A published event whose start has passed goes live straight away.
Run again opens a new event filled from another one: the name marked as a copy, the description, the ranking and the prize tiers, and a window of the same length starting at the next full hour, with entries closing as long before the end as they did. The tickets stay with the event they belong to, because a challenge is the ticket of one event at a time.
Moving an event along
The scheduler moves an event by itself: a published event goes live at its start, and a live one closes at its end, its ranks freeze and it waits for its prizes. The rest is a button, each checking where the event stands first, so a click on a screen that was open for an hour cannot undo what the clock already did.
- Publish shows a draft to traders. It goes live at once when its start has passed. An event whose end has passed cannot be published.
- Back to draft hides an event that has not started. Traders who entered keep their entry.
- End now closes a live event at this moment, works out the scores a last time and freezes the ranks.
- Reopen runs an event that waits for its prizes again, until a new end you pick in your firm's time zone: after ending it by mistake, or to give traders more time. The frozen ranks are let go and the board is live again at once. Not once a prize went out.
- Cancel event stops an event that is coming up, live or awaiting prizes, and nobody wins. Not once a prize went out.
- Back to draft after a cancel brings the event back to fix and publish again, with its ranks let go.
Each of these except Back to draft after a cancel asks first, and Reopen asks for its new end.
Deleting
Delete asks first and takes the event out of this list and off the trader side. Traders who entered keep the accounts they entered with. A ticket stays attached to the deleted event and is not sold anywhere until you attach it to another one.
In the older designs
Propper - OG and Tactical keep their earlier list of events, a separate page to create or edit one with the status as a field, and a page with the leaderboard and the award button. The search, filters and sorting, the Prizes and Activity tabs, the buttons that move an event along, ending early, taking a trader out of the ranking, reopening an event that ended, running an event again, the price, limit and sale of a ticket, the warnings and the summary are only in the standard design.
What the standard design sets still holds in the older ones: a trader taken out of the ranking stays out and wins nothing, and prize tiers saved on the older page keep the traders already holding them. Once a prize went out, the older page cannot change the tiers either, and says so under the tier you changed.
