**Onboarding** in your admin sidebar, under Traders.

Onboarding is everything a new trader does between creating an account and
reaching their dashboard. Some of it is fixed by the platform, some of it is
yours to write, and the screen shows the whole flow in the order the trader
walks it, beside a drawing of what the trader sees.

You need `view_settings` to open the screen and `manage_settings` to change
anything on it. Somebody with only the first sees everything, with the fields
switched off and a line saying why. Downloading the answers also takes
`view_traders`, because every row of that file names a trader. The link to your
challenges shows with `view_challenges`, and the link to Legal with
`view_legal`.

## The screen

On the left is a rail with a row for everything you can open, and on the right
the row that is open. Each row ends in its current state, so the rail alone
says how your onboarding is set up.

1. **General** on top: whether onboarding runs at all, the minimum age, the
identity check and buying a challenge first.
2. **About you**: Propper's steps with a lock beside them, then your own steps
numbered in the order a trader meets them, then **Add step**.
3. **Identity**: the identity check, when it runs inside the flow.
4. **Challenge**: buying a challenge first.

Every row has its own address (`?step=` in the address bar), so a link you send
a colleague opens on the same step. J and K walk the rail. A right click on any
row opens it or copies its link. On General, the identity check and buying a
challenge first it also switches that setting on or off, and on one of your own
steps it moves the step up or down, duplicates it, copies its title or deletes
it.

From a wide enough window the drawing of what the trader sees stands beside the
open row and stays in view while you scroll. On a narrower one it sits under the
form, and on a phone the rail and the open row take turns, with a back link.

### Saving

Everything on the screen saves together, from the bar at the bottom. It counts
what you changed (each setting of General, each step and the order of your
steps each count as one) and saves it in one go, with **Discard** to go back to
what was saved and Cmd or Ctrl+S as a shortcut. A dot on a rail row marks a
change that is not saved yet, a red dot a row that could not be saved, and a
failed save opens the first row that holds an error. Leaving the screen with
unsaved changes asks first.

Only what you changed is sent. A colleague who changed the age limit while you
were rewriting a step keeps their change when you save yours. Your steps are
saved as one list, so when a colleague saved the steps after you opened the
screen, saving yours is refused with a line saying so rather than undoing their
work. Reload the page to see what they changed.

### Warnings

Under the drawing, the screen lists what will not work as the form stands,
before you save: a step without a title or without questions, a question
without text, a dropdown without options, onboarding switched off so that new
traders never accept your documents (with buying first on they still accept
your terms and refund policy when they pay), an identity check with no flow to
run in, and buying first while your firm cannot sell. Each line opens the row it is about.

## General

| Setting | What it decides |
| --- | --- |
| Require onboarding | Whether new traders go through the flow at all. Off, they go straight to the platform without giving their details or accepting your documents. Your steps and questions stay saved, so turning it back on brings them back as they were |
| Minimum age | 18 and over, or 13 and over. A date of birth that makes the trader younger is refused, and the date picker stops at the last date allowed |
| Identity check | A document and a selfie through Stripe Identity. Choose whether it runs in the flow, before the first trade, or waits until the trader asks for their first payout, so only traders who withdraw are checked |
| Buy a challenge first | Whether a new trader chooses and pays for a challenge as the last step before the platform opens. Off by default. See [Buying a challenge first](#buying-a-challenge-first) |

Two of these reach traders who are already here. Turning onboarding on while
traders never finished it asks first, because they are taken back into the
flow on their next visit. Turning on buying first while traders without an
account would be held asks first too, with how many.

**Where your traders are**, under the settings, counts your traders: how many
have not started yet, how many are on each step, and how many finished, with
how many signed up and finished in the last 30 days. A step in that list opens
that step. A trader's place is the step the wizard saved when they last moved
on, read against your steps as they are now, so right after you add or remove a
step a few traders can be counted one step off. Colleagues under Team are not
counted.

## Propper's steps

The platform's own steps come first and stay the same for every firm. You see
what they ask, with each question's type and whether it is required, but cannot
change or remove them:

1. **Your handle**, the name other traders see on leaderboards. Their real name
   stays between them and you.
2. **Personal details**: full legal name, date of birth, country of residence
and an optional phone number. The minimum age can be set right here as well
   as under General.
3. **Agreements**: your terms, your privacy policy and your risk disclosure,
each a box to tick. The screen lists the three documents, says per document
whether traders read your own text (and in which languages) or the standard
one, and links to each as the trader reads it and to Legal, where they are
   edited.
4. **Market data agreement**, only when Rithmic data is enabled for your firm.
Rithmic and the exchanges require every trader to say whether they are a
professional and to accept their terms before the first price reaches them.
A firm with dxFeed data gets no step here: dxFeed asks its own questions
   right after onboarding.

Each of them says how many traders are on it right now.

## Your own steps

Your own steps come after Propper's. **Add step** puts a new one at the end
with a first question ready and the cursor in its title. A flow holds up to 20
of your own steps.

Each step has a title, an optional line under it, and its questions, up to 30. A
question is one of eight types: short text, long text, dropdown, checkbox, date,
number, email address or phone number. Each is required or optional (a checkbox
that is required must be ticked), the text types take a placeholder, and a
dropdown takes up to 50 options and needs at least one. In a dropdown, Enter
adds the next option and Backspace in an empty one removes it. Questions move
up and down, are duplicated or removed from their own menu, and the question
you are editing is outlined in the drawing.

Steps move up and down, are duplicated and are deleted from the step's menu or
the rail's right click. All of it waits for the save bar like any other change,
so **Discard** brings a deleted step back. Answers traders already gave are
kept when a step or question is removed.

Every question keeps the name it was saved under, so its answers stay with it
when you rename it, move it or move its step. A duplicated step or question
gets names of its own and starts without answers. A new question never takes
the name of one that already exists, nor of a field Propper's steps or your data
provider ask for.

### Answers

Each of your steps shows what traders answered: how many answered each
question, and for a dropdown or a checkbox how the answers split. An answer to
an option you since removed is still counted, marked as no longer an option. A
question you have not saved yet has no answers to show.

**Download all answers** gives a CSV of every trader who answered any of your
questions, newest first: their id, name, email, when they signed up and
finished, and a column per question. A dropdown answer reads as its option's
label and a checkbox as yes or no. Each download is recorded in the activity
log.

## The identity check

The identity row has the same two settings as General, and says what a trader
meets with them: nothing, a check before the first payout, a check in the flow
after your questions, or, when onboarding and buying first are both off, a
banner in the platform. In every case buying, trading and the AI assistant stay
locked until a trader who has to verify has done so. A check at payout holds the
payout request until it passes.

## Buying a challenge first

With **Buy a challenge first** on, choosing and paying for a challenge become the
last two stages of the flow. After your questions and the identity check, the
trader picks a program and a size on your pricing table and pays for it, without
leaving the full screen flow. Their choice folds into one line on the payment
step with a link back to change it. The platform opens the moment the payment is
through: on a firm with dxFeed data the trader answers dxFeed's questions first,
otherwise they go straight to their new account.

The row on the screen lists every program you sell with its number of sizes and
links to Challenges. It also says how many traders the setting reaches right now,
and lists the two documents a trader agrees to with one box before paying, your
terms and your refund policy, with whether they read your own text or the
standard one and a link to Legal.

**Who is asked.** Every trader who never had an account at your firm and never
had a payment go through. That includes traders who signed up before you
switched it on: they are asked on their next visit.

**Who is never asked.** Anyone who ever had an account with you, whether bought,
free, from an event, given by your team, failed or deleted. Anyone with a
payment that went through, also when it was refunded later. Your colleagues
under Team, and you.

**When it does nothing.** While your firm cannot sell, nobody is held: before you
go live, without a connected payment account, or with no challenge for sale. The
screen says which, and the setting starts working by itself once the cause is
gone.

A trader whose bank is still confirming the payment waits on the payment page,
which updates itself, and is not offered a second purchase in the meantime. Some
banks take a few working days. A payment the bank refuses shows as not
completed, with a way to try again, and one that is still unconfirmed after
three weeks lets the trader in rather than keep them waiting. A trader whose
account is under review sees that their purchase is on hold, with help and a way
to log out instead of the pricing table. A trader who arrived through an
affiliate link to a particular challenge still lands on that challenge's
checkout. Until the payment is through, events, free event entries, market data
activation and the rest of the platform stay closed. Help, your contact page,
your legal pages, the language switch and the unsubscribe link in your campaign
mail stay open.

With **Require onboarding** off and this on, a new trader goes from creating an
account straight to choosing a challenge, with the identity check before it when
it runs in the flow.

## The drawing

The drawing shows the screen the trader gets for the row you have open, with
your logo, colour, fonts and corners, and follows the form as you type. Its
arrows step through the flow the way a trader would, and the position beside
them says where you are. You can draw it as a phone or a desktop and in light or
dark. On General it shows the first screen of the flow, and on the purchase row
it switches between choosing and paying, drawing your pricing table and the
payment summary of the size marked Most chosen. A step a trader will not see as
things stand, such as one while onboarding is off, is still drawn, with a line
saying why the trader does not get it.

It is only a drawing: nothing in it can be clicked, and it never saves or sends
anything.

## What the trader sees

On the standard design, onboarding is a screen of its own rather than a page
inside the platform. A bar across the top carries your logo and name, the stages
with a tick on each one that is done (**About you**, then **Identity** when the
check runs in the flow, then **Choose a challenge** and **Payment** when you
ask for a purchase first), the language, help and a way to log out. On a phone
the stages become a progress line with "Step 1 of 2".

The trader sees one step at a time, with Back and Continue under it. Boxes to
tick are grouped into one list, and every agreement has a Read link that opens
the document in a new tab. Each step is checked and saved the moment they
continue, so a trader who closes the tab picks up where they stopped, and an
answer the server refuses sends them back to the step it belongs to.

Help opens your live support when you run it, and your contact page when you do
not. Both stay open during onboarding, as do your legal pages and the language
switch. Everything else in the platform sends the trader back to the flow until
they finish.

The identity step explains what is needed and opens Stripe's own check in a
window over the page. While Stripe reviews the documents the page updates
itself, and a check that did not go through says so with a button to try again.
A trader can also choose **Later** and finish onboarding without it. Buying a
challenge and the AI assistant then stay locked until they are verified, and a
banner in the platform reminds them. When you ask for a purchase first there is
no Later: the challenges open once the trader is verified.

When they finish, the platform records which version of your terms, privacy
policy and risk disclosure they accepted, and sends them to where they were
going before onboarding stopped them. A trader who arrived through an
affiliate link to a particular challenge lands on that challenge. On a firm with
dxFeed data, dxFeed's own questions come first, and the trader moves on to that
challenge from there.

Firms on Propper - OG and Tactical keep the wizard those designs launched with.
The questions, the rules and what is recorded are the same. Choosing and paying,
when you ask for a purchase first, use the full screen flow on every design.

Colleagues you invite under Team never see onboarding or the identity check.

## In the older designs

Propper - OG and Tactical keep the screen they launched with: the four switches
across the top, the flow as one column with every step folded open, the preview
beside it and counters for steps, questions and required questions. Removing a
step there asks first. Where your traders are, the answers and their download,
duplicating a step or a question, the drawing as a phone or in dark mode, the
warnings, the agreements with their documents, and the limits on steps,
questions and options are only in the standard design.

What the standard design saves still holds in the older ones. A question keeps
the name it was saved under in every design, and a new question saved from an
older screen never takes the name of an existing one either. The order of your
steps, the rules and the purchase work the same whichever design the firm runs.
